A total of 140 respondents were selected by purposive random sampling method. The individual interview was also conducted to seek deeper information. The results show that participation in tourism development was involved in every step in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and sharing of benefits. In the planning, implementation and sharing of benefits generally typified genuine participation, while in the monitoring and evaluation typified pseudo-participation. Factors such as main occupation, length of residence, interdependency, social sensitivity, sharing of benefits from natural resources, and non government assistance related to the type of participation. |

The objective of this research was to study the application of sustainable tourism development (STD) to assess community-based tourism performance (CBTP) by concentrating on the indicators for the evaluation of CBTP. To reach such a goal, this research begins with a literature review concerning CBT goals and objectives and also STD through an outline of indicators. The next step is a range of comprehensive interviews with the local leaders, public officers, CBT team, and academic scholars of the Koh Kred Kred community, Pak-Kred district, Nonthaburi province, Thailand. The findings of this study demonstrated that the goals and objectives of CBT emphasize the development of community in several aspects, including the generation of revenue and employment, the encouragement of participation, and an increase of awareness regarding the preservation of culture and environment which is part of the sustainable development way. Indicators of CBTP in terms of STD are the guides not only to the economic, socio-cultural, and environmental issues, but also to subjects which concern ecology. To conclude, both CBTP and STD aim to better the quality of life of inhabitants by creating a sustainable economy, valuing the socio-cultural genuineness of local communities, and conserving the environment. |

The objectives were to describe the processes involved in internal conflict and cooperation and its management, and determine and analyze the type of conflict and cooperation among members within the community. Ban Ruammit was selected as a sample of tribal community which has contributed to tourism development in the Northern Thailand. A total of 140 samples were purposively selected and served as respondents of this study. Data were gathered through individual and focused interviews, and secondary sources of information. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the data analyses. Result showed that conflict among members in the tourism activities was generally low, while cooperation was within the level of moderate. Type of conflict is more of an interpersonal type, whereas type of cooperation of local community was mostly of informal type, which was common in rural organizations. Factors such as main occupation, length of residence, length of group membership, gross annual family income, interdependency, social sensitivity, ascendant tendency, dependability and government assistance had relationships with level of conflict. While, interdependency, dependability, satisfaction with the existing sustainable tourism, cultural sensitivity, and sharing in benefits from natural resources were related to level of cooperation. |
